More than Men, Less than Gods

Thank you for visiting the online reference for the Less Than Gods(LTG) super hero & action/adventure role playing game. LTG is relatively new, but has a creative and dedicated group of core players that keep the wheels turning. We've begun to flesh out an expansive and intricate setting combining elements from established media and our own original creations. Fans of comic books, action movies, and mystery and horror will see many familiar items reinvented to fit in our shared world. We hope you like what you see and that you'll join us both in developing the setting and playing the RPG!

Genre & Setting

LTG is primarily, but not exclusively, a super-hero RPG. Because the comics it uses for inspiration are very much cross-genre, going from action/adventure to mystery, horror, the supernatural, military and espionage, and science fiction, so too is LTG. I term this broad range modern fantasy.

Characters and themes appropriate to the LTG setting may come from:

  • Comics from publishers including Marvel, DC, Valiant, and others
  • action/adventure movies, novels & TV shows
  • mystery, science-fiction, and supernatural media set in the modern day
  • Original, player created characters that fit in

A quick peek at the timeline shows that, in addition to superheroes, the setting makes use of a wide variety of people, groups, and ideas from other franchises, from Godzilla to GI Joe to the Transformers to the A-Team, Airwolf, Millennium, and Dark Shadows.

If this sounds hopelessly clumsy to you, think again. The LTG setting has been built from the ground up to integrate all these different components and features an extensively developed back story that ranges from pre-history to the modern day, with all the role playing possibilities they provide. This is not simply the world outside your door with larger than life characters: the presence of metahumans, contact with hostile aliens, and the presence of advanced technology has had and continues to have a significant impact on the course of human history and society.

Although this game features many individuals with abilities well beyond the human norm, it is not a game for nigh-invincible Superman or Sentry type characters, either. The characters live in a world where bullets, bombs, and tumbling buildings have the potential to slay even the mightiest champion and their powers are considerably more restricted than in the comics. This is done to maintain verisimilitude to the real world and to promote internal consistency and good drama.

Purpose and Goals

First and foremost, the purpose of LTG is for the players to have fun. It has no pretenses to creating a transcendent work of art that speaks to the human condition or any other highfalutin notions, but it should be a literate and enjoyable exercise in interactive drama. Friendliness and patience are encouraged and civility and honest effort are demanded.

That said, we also like to touch on items of real world importance within the context of the game world. Expect some controversy and challenging notions in the midst of the fantastic.
